Using a safety ladder access bracket and ladders are great for simple, temporary roof access. But it’s important to assess for risk and take measures to reduce the danger of a fall or injury.
This can be done by following this simple working at heights checklist.

  1. The ladder must have non slip feet.
  2. It must be secured at top and bottom, extending one metre above the roof line.
  3. The ladder must be placed on a flat surface with a safe landing area.
  4. Leave good clearance between any metal ladder and electrical wires.
  5. Ladders must not have a slope greater than 4 to 1.
  6. Users must have three points of contact at all times when on the ladder.
  7. Never climb a ladder while carrying tools or other materials.
  8. Only use a ladder for access or egress of a roof, never as a work platform.
